Biography
Elizabeth Kendall, the daughter of Francis Kendal, was born on 15 Jan 1653 at Woburn, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[1][2][3][4]
The Great Migration 1634-1635, T-Y. Page 486(Online database. AmericanAncestors.org. New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2012.) Originally published as: The Great Migration, Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635, Volume VII, T-Y, by Robert Charles Anderson. Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2011.) shows that Ephraim Winship married, as his second wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Francis Kendall, at Cambridge 9 Nov 1675.
Watertown records show: "Joseph Peirce (sic) of water town &: Elizabeth winship of Cambridge wear Joyned together in marriage June 15: 1698: before mr samuel Angier."(Massachusetts Vital Records to 1850 (Online Database: AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2001-2010). Watertown Records, Vol. 2, Page 4)
But, Clements, in the old Kendall Family in America, shows that she married James Pierce.(The Kendall family in America, by William Montgomery Clemens, pub. at Hackensack, N.J. 1919; page 5).
I believe that Clements is wrong and that she married Joseph, not John, but then there is a death record in Woburn. Elizabeth, wife of James Pierce, died at Woburn on 16 Oct 1715.[5] [6]
Is the Elizabeth Kendall who married James, a different person? Or did Elizabeth Kendall, daughter of Francis, marry three times: Ephraim Winship, Joseph Pierce and James Pierce? Is there any evidence for the marriage of Elizabeth Kendall, daughter of Francis, marrying John Pierce/Peirce?
? The 1715 death date often seen for Elizabeth Kendall is the date for James Pierce's wife and so does not apply to Elizabeth Kendall. On 22 Dec 1713, the widow Elizabeth and son Jacob were granted Administration on Joseph Peirce's estate. NEHGR 55:443 also cites the History of Lexington, p. 268, to say that the widow Elizabeth (Kendall) (Winship) Peirce was dismissed from Woburn to the church in Lexington.
