Oorzaak: Consumption
Er ist verheiratet mit Ailcey (Ailcy) Clarinda Gaskins.
Sie haben geheiratet am 1. Dezember 1851 in Gallia, Gallia County, OH, er war 33 Jahre alt.
1. James and Ailcey had 11 children.
Kind(er):
1. James lived in North Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York ca 1900 according to the Wildey source. We hope she was wrong becasue if she was correct this James is not a son of Gurdon! This discrepancy and birth dates of 1823 and 1828 may be because this James "broke" from his family (see note below).

"My grandfather Claude was an accomplished cabinetmaker and carpenter and was a foreman at the Marietta plant
in Point Pleasant. They built riverboats and during the 2nd world war built landing barges and repaired submarines.
He was taught by his father (John Henry Cheesebrew - our note) who was taught by his father, James H. Cheesebrew,
who was listed as a carpenter in the death record. He apparently was a union member from this article from the Point
Pleasant Register (newspaper) that appeared on 11 August 1880. It was then called the Weekly Register. Notice that
his name was H. J. Cheesebrew in this article.
; Tribute of Respect
At a meeting of the Sand Hill Assembly of the Knights of Labor held August 7, 1880, the following resolutions were
unanimously adopted:
Whereas it has pleased almighty God in his infinite wisdom to remove from this earth our beloved brother and coworker,
H. J. Cheesebrew, therefore,
Resolved, that in the death of Brother Cheesebrew, this assembly has lost an honest and faithful member, his family a
kind and affectionate husband and father, and the community a valued citizen.
Resolved, that we sympathize with the bereaved family in this hour of their severest trial.
Resolved, that the members of this Assembly contribute the sum of $1 each to the widow of our deceased brother as a
token of their willingness to assist her when necessary.
Resolved that a copy of these resolutions be published in the 'Register' and also in the 'Tribune - monitor'. "
3. James Hiram Chesebrough changed his name to Hiram James Cheesebrew sometime following his moving from New York to West Virginia. Family folklore indicates he broke all ties with his family and may have married an Indian early in his life. Birth records in Mason County, West Virginia listed "James H. Cheesebrough" father of his first son "James W. Cheesebrough". Records for the later children spelled the name Cheesebrew. His first child, Emily, probably was born in Ohio and with the "Cheesebrough" or "Chesebrough" spelling.
4. Courtesy of our source Jodeph Elliot the following was in a "certificate" dated June 1, 1864 signed by the first governor of West Virginia in Clarence Cheesebrew's bible given to Joseph by Clarence's daughter, Lorretta Cheesebrew Miller ca 1980:
"James H Cheesebrew
First Lieutenant
6th Brigade
2nd Division
West Virginia Miltia"
