Sir Henry Le Scrope, eldest son of Sir William le Scrope, becameajudgeofthe Court of t h e K ing's bency, 2nd Edward II. He wasatrierofpetitions in the parliament which met at Li n col n, 9thEdwardII,1316,and in the following year was made Chief Justice ofhiscourt,whic h ju dicial office he filled for seven years. He wasinhighfavorthroughout the greater pa r t o f the reign of Edward II,andwasemployedin various situations of high trust. On the ac c ess ionofEdwardIII, hewas reappointed Chief Justice of the King'sBench,andsubsequently m a de Chief Baron of the Exchequer. He obtainedchartersoffree warren forhis manors of Bolt o n an d is considered thefounder ofthewealthy abbetyof St. Agatha of Richmond.
