http://www.mijnstambomen.nl/doomer.htm:" Herman was an ebony worker and made frames for paintings for several Dutch painters.
One of them was Rembrand. They were friends and Rembrand stayed even stayed for a while in Hermans house
when he was out of cash.
Probably as a gift he painted Herman and his wife. The first painting is in the Metropolitan, de second in Hermitage in Sint Petersburg.
When Baartje died, she wanted her son Lambert Doomer, also a painter and a pupil of Rembrandt, to make copies of the paintings for his siblings. We do not know if this wish was completely carried out.
“At present we know of copies of the portraits created by Lambert Doomer in 1644 (Devonshire Collections, Chartsworth). Compared to the originals, there are several formal differences. There was another copy of the portrait of Baertje Martens in the early twentieth century in the Pichou Collection in Paris.”
Lambert Doomer, was known for his work as a topographical draftsman, he largely based his drawings on his travels.
In 1646 he visited his brothers at Nantes, returning to northern France via the Loire valley and sketching châteaux and towns such as Saumur and Le Havre. He made several journeys through the Netherlands and in 1663 he traveled up the Rhine.
From 1669 to 1695, Doomer lived mostly in Alkmaar in the northwest Netherlands, where his home still stands.
In 1646 he lived in England where he made the first landschapes of The Isle of Wight."
