It is said that he paid his fare from Rotterdam, Holland but had no receipt , hence when he landed he was sold into 4 years of service to reimburse the merchant who befriended him aboard ship. After his service he went to live with his sister. He enlisted on the American side of the Revolutionary War about 1776 . He was drafted into the North Hampton Comany. When the British troops were in New Jersey, he served 2 months as a private under Colonel Geiger , he was in a skirmish at Germantown, Later he served 2 months under Colonel Sigfried and engaged in several scouting missions . He also enlisted and served as a substitute for a person for 2 months under Captain Groves . Then re enlisted and served 2 years as a driver of a team under Colonel Hooper. He also served 9 months as a pack horse driver against the Indians under Captain John Hale. This John George Focht is the only pensioner found in the records of this bureau. He was discharged at Wilkes-Barre, Pa. After his discharge he returned to his sister Mrs Horn and about that time he married Miss Beaver 1780 near Planck, Pa. He bought land on Cedar Creek , Lehigh Co., Pa where they lived for 16-18 years. Then they moved 6 miles south east of Tamaqua, Pa, the soil was poor, but they had a good stand of pine timber, however it was underlaid with Anthracite Coal which later sold for $800,000.00. After his financial reverses, he found unclaimed piece of land in Catawissa Valley and had it patented. Here he died ,his wife havng died at the home of a son Adam earlier in 1834. He and his wife are both buried in the Ringtown Cemetery. He was about 79 years old.
