Henry Percy, K.G., (10 Nov 1341 - 19 Feb 1407/8), was the son of Henry de Percy (d.16 Jun 1368) and Mary of Lancaster (d.01 Sep 1362).[1][2][3] In 1368, he succeeded as 4th Baron Percy, and was created 1st Earl of Northumberland on 16 July 1377.[4] He was also Marshal of England, Constable of England, and general of Edward III's forces in Calais, Ardes, Guisnes.[4]
Marriage
On 12 July 1358, he married his first wife, the widow of William de Roos, Margaret de Neville (12 Feb 1339 - 12 May 1372), in Brancepeth, Durham. Her parents were Sir Ralph de Neville, 2nd Baron Nevill of Raby and Alice de Audley. ... Their marriage license is dated 26 Feb 1358.[5][1]
They had four sons, and a daughter:[1][6]
Sir Henry "Harry Hotspur" K.G., K.B.* (20 May 1364 - 21 Jul 1403)[7]
Sir Thomas (d. est.1388)[8]
Sir Ralph (d. 1400)
Alan (b. est 1372)
Margaret (b. est 1368)
Some sources also claim they had another daughter Isoude, who married Madoc Kynaston,[9] but this is disputed.[10]
Percy married again in the eighth year of Richard II's reign[11] ... sometime before 15 December 1381. His second wife Maud de Lucy (est 1343 - 18 Dec 1398), was the widow of Gilbert de Umfreville, Earl of Angus.[11] Her parents were Sir Thomas de Lucy, 2nd Lord Lucy, and Margaret de Multon.[1] Percy and Maud had no children.[1][12]
Death
Percy was slain after his rebel force was defeated at the Battle of Bramham Moor.[1][13] Collins (1828), states that he was attacked by Rokby, sheriff of Yorkshire on the 29th of February 1407/8 ... then beheaded. His head was then dispatched to London along with the rebel, Lord Baldolf.[14] Percy was eventually buried at York Cathedral.[1][15]
