Biography
Margaret was aged 40 in March 1326/7, so her estimated birth is circa 1287.
She was shown as Baroness Badlesmere 26 Oct 1309. Margaret was arrested and imprisoned in Tower of London Nov 1321 to Nov 1322; she was the first female prisoner in the Tower's history. She was jailed for ordering armed assault on Isabella of France, Queen consort of Edward II.[1] She surrendered 31 October 1321.
During her lifetime, she resided at Castle Badlesmere and Chilham Castle, both in Kent.
She retired to convent house of Minorite Sisters, outside Aldgate by 1323[2]

Family
Siblings: Gilbert de Clare, Lord of Thomond; Richard de Clare, 1st Lord Clare, Lord of Thomond[3]; elder sister, Maud;[4] illegitimate half-brother, Richard the Clerk.
1st marriage: before 1303, Gilbert de Umfraville, son of Gilbert de Umphraville, Earl of Angus, and Elizabeth Comyn.[5]
2nd marriage: before 30 June 1308 Bartholomew de Badlesmere. Issue: 4 dau. 1 son and h. Giles Badlesmere (who died childless leaving his 4 sisters as co-heiresses).[6]
