Sir Richard de Poynings was the son of Robert de Poynings, 4th Lord Poynings and Margaret Squery.1,2 He married, firstly, Joan Seamer, daughter of Henry Seamer. There was a funerary brass for Joan, 1420, which was formerly in St Helen's church, Bishopsgate, London. It has been reproduced in various publications, listed on p. 310 of "List of Monumental Brasses". 3 He married, secondly, Eleanor Berkeley, daughter of Sir John Berkeley and Elizabeth Betteshorne, circa 1423.1 He died on 10 June 1429.4
Sir Richard de Poynings was invested as a Knight before 1423.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Sussex in 1423.3
