"Missouri Pioneers" WILBURN'S/WELBORN'S
Posted by Betty Donahoe on December 17, 1998 at 23:19:22:
In the book of "Missouri Pioneers" of St. Francois County, MO, 1822 to
1852 are the following names mentioned. Elizabeth WILBURN, Carter T.
WELBORN, Thomas WELBORN, & James WELBORN, Will dated July 15, 1841.
Children listed are: Moses, Elizabeth, Aaron, Susanna, William, Thomas,
James, Chapley and Carter. Then two other names are mentioned in this
book of Isaac WILBURN & James WILLBURN.
This information was found in one of the old cookbooks of one of my
relatives. I do NOT know if this book is even in print anymore but
wanted to share it with everyone.
Upon doing a little research on it, I did find some or most of these
WILBURN'S/WILLBURN'S/WELBORN'S in the county that I previously mentioned.
Hope this helps someone out there in their research. After all, this is
what research & genealogy is all about, helping others find their
ancestors!!

Ann,
I have a book written by Carl Ellison of Anderson SC. He states that
Gideon died in Barren Co., KY May 1818, and was buried there. He has him
married to Tobitha circa 1790. This is all the info he has on Gideon.
He does not list any children for Isaac, either.I have not researched any
of this, so I cannot verify it is true. I descend from Aaron.

Betty, thanks for sharing these books. My ancestor, Gideon, disappeared
from Barren County, KY, records in 1818. In 1818 his brother
James/Rebecca Younger Welborn and his brother, Isaac/Sarah Teague Welborn
moved to St. Francois County, MO. I have often wondered if Gideon could
have gone with them to scout the place before sending for his wife,
Tabitha, and children.
I have names of all of James, Jr's children, shared by his descendants.
However, we do not have all of the children of Isaac. He was in Rowan
County, NC; probably Grayson County, VA, a son Isaac born VA 1806; then
in Barren and Warren counties, KY, several years before going to St.
Francois County, MO.
