=======================================

Chesley WOOLDRIDGE, GGGG Grandfather, W436. Born aft 1777 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. Chesley died bef 1900 in Woodford County, Kentucky, USA.

Chesley Wooldridge family came from Chesterfield Co. VA. to Woodford Co., KY in 1820. Chesley brought his wife and two sons, Edward and Green. His wife, Elizabeth Johnson Wooldridge, died in ca. 1821, and Chesley remarried Agnes LaFrance in 1822. They had one son together:
Merritt Wooldridge, who was born in 1832. Died about 1843 in Illinois.

Chesley Wooldridge in tax lists in Powhattan Co. VA. from 1811 through 1821, then gone. In the 1820 census of Woodford Co. KY., Chesley Wooldridge, listed with apparent wife and 2 sons under 10 years old. On 28 Aug 1822, Charles Wooldridge wed Agnes LaFrance or LaForce in Woodford Co. KY. (Marriage Lie. lists name as Chesley - Minister lists Charles.)
Woodford Co. KY. Book 1 Page 214, written 13 Sept 1820, Will of Green Wooldridge mentions only his brother Charles Wooldridge, Executor William Wooldridge. It would appear to me that Chesley (Chas) Wooldridge came to Kentucky with his wife and 2 sons in 1820 on notice of the illness of his brother Green. His wife evidently died in 1821; but where was he in the 1830 census?
[Above fm the notes of Beryl Wooldridge, which I have on file. MLW]

On 28 Aug 1822 Chesley married Agnes LAFORCE, GGGG Grandmother, in Woodford Co., KY.

They had one child:

Subject: La Force Welcome to the La Force Tree! I want to warn you we are a bunch of nuts though. I have an excerpt from a History of Woodford Co., KY listing a Josiah Woolridge and an Elisha Woolridge as slave owners. I am not sure which La Force would be the father of your Agnes but I do believe that she is a La Force and not a La France. Renald Rene,Jr.s daughter Agnes La Force that married John Mahan is not likely because she would have been listed as Mahan and not La Force. Samuel La Force did have a daughter Agnes but she married Henry Sutherland and I have a full account of her family in my book. It is not she. I believe she would have been the granddaughter of one of these La Forces. I am still researching the links between these La Forces and the descendents today. Also, some of the descendants have changed the spelling to Le Force.

Some of the ways I have found the name spelled is: Li Force, Lewforce, Leforce,Lafourse, and lately La Forz, but we all descended from Renald Rene La Force of Henrico Co, VA --circa 1690 to 1728.

My father has first cousins in your area of VA. He was born in Russell Co., VA and I was born in Kingsport, TN but I have lived in LA-MS most of my adult life. I now live : 4909 Pacific Street, Bay St. Louis, MS. My phone is: 1-601-467-0788. I am going to Kingsport, TN for the 4th of July. We have a combined family reunion and birthday party for my father at that time. He will be 89 this year. I hope to do some research while I am there. I think we may be able to fill in our gaps with combined effort . I'll be glad to help you in any way possible. Hopeful, Louise La Force Roberson
Wayne A. Roberson GOD put on this planet to accomplish a certain number of task. As of today I am so far behind I will NEVER die...

Dear Cousin, Yes, we have to be connected. We have a couple of Angeses that I know of. Lots of this info was snt to me by Louise Roberson. She has not registered on any "roots" pages that I know of but has done lots of research on the La Force family, and I consider her the expert. However, here is "our" info on Agnes. Dr. Renald Rene Castletnau de La Force b. Guyenne, Fr about 1660. Arrived in Va beore 1700. m. Sarah (Crow?). Had a largeland grant in Va. Was one of the first justices of Goochland Co, Va, being apointd by gov. Wm. Gooch on 4/23/1728. He died 9/27/ 1728.

Their children:
Renald Rene (Jr.) b. Henrico Co, Va 1723, m. Agnes Mosbey ab. 1728
Sarah b. 1725 m. Wm. Harding (Frances Casstevens is listed in "Rand")
Rachel b. 1727 d. 1754 (in father's will, not in mother's will)
Judith b. 1728/9 (in mother's will, not in father's, probably born after his death.) m. Robert Burton (Ty Btown is descendent)

As far as Louis knows, Sarah did not remarry.
RR Jr. m. Agnes Moseby in Va and had 10 children. He was captured during Rev. War and taken to Canada where he died. She still had 5 children at home. They had lost their land, and she asked for the return of land and slaves. They probably were given land in Ky, because that is where they went.

Of the 10 children, Agnes was #8, b. 1760 in Botetourt Co, Va near the upper James River. Most of the family was in Ky by 1773. Agnes m. John Mahan in 1778. One possibility is that Agnes was widowed and is the one that m. your Chesley WOOLDRIDGE. Another possibility is that the 3rd child of RR and Agnes was Samuel b. 1750 m. Agnes Bailey. We was in Capt. May's Co in 1783 and moved to Russel Co.Va, Ky and Tenn.

Your Agnes may have been one of theirs, or any other of the 10 children since Agnes was their mother's name. I bet we do connect.
