He served as a private in Colonel Josiah Smith's Suffolk County, Militia 1st Regt. of Minute Men. Pension #57982. He fought in the Revolutionary War. His birth and death dates are on his tombstone, in the Village Cemetery at Palmyra, Wayne, New York. He moved to Palmyra after his sons founded it in about 1800.
