"The homestead of the Cossarts would seem to have been located at the northwest corner of the Junction of Cedar Brook, Bound Brook and Green Brook. One History (James P. Snell, Hist. of Hunterdon and Somerset Cos., N. J., Phila., Evarts & Peck, 1881) stated that lot 107 was surveyed to David Cossart on 5-23-1729. Lot 107 appears on the map numbered III in the Elizabethtown Bill in Chancery (Records of the board of Proprietors of Perth Amboy, N. J., Book S1, p4). It has been stated (Rev. Abraham A. Messler, Centennial Hist. of Somerset Co., N. J ., Somersville, N. J., 1878, p. 34) that the Dutch colony in Somerset Co ., N. J., came from Long Island between 1681 and 1699 and specifically mentions the Van Nest family."d was a stone mason and engaged in the building and contracting trade in which he became quite wealthy for that period. The NYC tax records show that he was a property owner in both the north and south wards of the city, where he purchased and deeded property. Records also show that during the time David was living in New York City, he purchased lands extensively between the years 1700 and 1728, at and in the near vicinity of what is now Bound Brook, Somerset, NJ. About the year 1719, David Cosart came over from NYC, and purchased considerable property along the Raritan, NJ. His will was dated 1736 in Somerset Co, NJ and was probated in 1740.ckerscreek.com/upload/Hacker____s_Creek_Journals/HCJ_Vol._4-Issue_2.pdf provides a brief history of the early Coassart family and in particular the branch that migrated into Monongalia and Lewis Counties of West Virginia.
