LIEUT. NATHANIEL BRIGGS (William, William, John) was born in Taunton in 1698; he died there 14 Aug. 1773, aged 75 years.
He married in Wrentham 16 June 1720, JUDITH GUILD (Vital Records of Wrentham, Mass., vol. 2, p. 310), daughter of John and Sarah (Fisher) Guild, born in Wrentham 19 Sept. 1697 (ibid., vol. 1, p. 105), died in Taunton, 22 Nov 1774, aged 77 years (g.s.). She was buried in Oakland Cemetery.

In the Military Records of Massachusetts there are several entries for Nathaniel Briggs showing service in the French and Indian War' -- (1) 'Centinel, Jule 10 -- Oct. 2 [1754] to the East', allowance for 4 days travel (Massachusetts Archives Volume 93, p. 141); (2) Nathaniel Briggs request for billeting 'North Hampton' May 331, 1758 (ibid., 96, p. 142); (3) Service under Capt. Dunbar, Jan 1-Dec. 18, 1760 to Nova Scotia (ibid., 98, p. 462).
The will of Nathaniel Briggs was drawn in Taunton 9 June 1773 and probated 30 Aug. 1773. His son Nathaniel was named executor. It was witnessed by Abijah Lincoln, Job Stacy and Philip Mason. The beneficiaries were his wife 'Judah'; his sons Nathaniel, William, and John; his daughters, Mercy Briggs, Mehitable Wetherell, Jemima Harvey, Margaret Willis, and 'Judah' Finney (Bristol County Probates, 22:483).
