He lived in Union until 1878, where he had a sawmill and a box shop and carried on an extensive lumber business. In that year he moved to Putnam, Conn., where he established a lumber yard, which business he and his son Elbert still carry on. While Union he was a deacon of the Congregational Church for fourteen years, and has since held that office in Putnam for ten years. He is one of those quiet, reliable, and solid men who form the backbone of the community."
