Notes
N135"Pennepek, or Lower Dublin Church (in Pennsylvania) was organized in January 1688, with Elder Elias Keach as pastor, with twelve members (including Elder Keach), viz., John Eaton, George Eaton, Jane Eaton, Sarah Eaton, Samuel Jones (these were all members of a Baptist church in Llanddewi and Nautmel, in Radnorshire, of which Henry Gregory was pastor). . . "
http://pblib.org/Delaware.html

"The Eatons and Samuel Jones were members of the mixed congregation of Arminians and Calvinists who worshipped together in the parish of Llandewi and in the neighboring parish of Nantmel in Radnorshire. Samuel Jones was a Calvinist and one of Thomas Evans's people, while the Eatons were Arminians and followers of Henry Gregory. However, both parties worshipped together amicably, tolerated their differences, and were united by their adult baptism. Theirs was, in all probability, a closed-communion church. In this they followed the General Baptists in England, but different to the English General Baptists they did not practise the laying on of hands upon baptized believers as the English General Baptists did."

"The Baptists were a persecuted and maligned sect. Accusations were made against Thomas Evans at the Court of Great Sessions as early as October 1660 and he was summoned many times by the Archdeacon of Brecon. The magistrates took away the last cow owned by Henry Gregory, thereby depriving his children of milk." ...

"Despite this atmosphere of recrimination and anxiety, it was a tolerant, peaceable and broad-based church polity which the Eatons and Samuel Jones took with them to Pennsylvania in 1683. George Eaton's Bible records that they left Llandewi on 1 August 1683 for their journey to the port of Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire. They arrived in Philadelphia on 3 November 1683. More than four years later, in January 1688, the Pennepack church was constituted. Their minister was Elias Keach, the son of the famous Baptist theologian, Benjamin Keach. Elias Keach was a 'very wild spark' who was converted while in PA."
