Biography
Thomas settled in Beverly and married Hannah. Their children: Thomas (June 8 1690, married Judith Elliot & Mary Woodbury), Elizabeth (June 8 1690), Richard (Aug 14 162, drowned 1746), Hannah (July 28 1695), John (July 17 1698), William (April 18 1703, married Sarah Trask).
When Thomas was around 12, during King Philip's War in 1676, Indians attacked many English settlements including Pemaquid, and his parents fled to Dorchester. They returned to Pemaquid in 1686, but Thomas may have gone to Beverly at that time.
Capt. Israel Cox claimed he was a son of Ebenezer Cock of Beverly born in 1728, son of Thomas Cox, son of Thomas Cox who came from England and settled at Cox's Cove in 1642, son of William. This was family tradition but also confused; study of records show that William was actually John and his son Thomas was born around 1662. Israel also claimed to be a cousin of John Cox of Dorchester.
Thomas Cox was born about 1664 in Lincoln, Maine to parents John Cox and an unknown wife. He married Hannah ____ about 1686 in Massachusetts. Children: Elizabeth, James, Richard, Hannah, John, William. He settled in Beverly, Massachusetts about 1689. He died in 1710 and his will was probated on 6 Feb 1710. He was a mariner.
