The IGI shows Porchester, Hampshire as the place of birth. Thomas Bellbin was baptised privately in Porchester on 17 May 1796 and again in Amport, Hampshire on 25 Dec 1799 at the same time as his brother Henry who had also been privately baptised away from Amport in 1798. According to the 1861 census Thomas was born in Amport but in the 1851 Census he is shown to have been born in Portsmouth, Hampshire. Although not certain, the facts would suggest that Thomas was born in Porchester rather than Amport, but so far this is not proved.
Private Baptism. Note: If a child was sickly it might have been baptised privately at home, possibly by the midwife who was licensed to christen the child if needed. After its recovery the infant might be received into the church and this may be what is noted in the registers.
Baptised the same day as his brother, Henry Belbin.
