He was born June 19, 1908, At Collins, Missouri, to David and Rosa Jane (McNelley) Baker. On December 3, 1930, he married Cuba Louise Gardner, who preceded him in death on May 31, 1994. They farmed east of Rainey until December 1964 when they moved south of Osceola, Missouri, where Fred resided until his health failed and he entered the Care Center. Fred always enjoyed gardening and flowers. His greatest joy was giving his delicious vegetables to family and friends. He always had an abundance of tomatoes to give to anyone who came by. Fred was baptized January 23, 1955 into the Pleasant Valley Christian Church, and after moving in 1964, he attended the Vista Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three half brothers. Fred is survived by a nephew, whom he raised as a son, Howard Edward Dosier of Raymore, Missouri and his wife, Joyce; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; his sisters; Opal Fern Cooper, Waverly, Missouri; Ethel Bernita Mathieson, Weaubleau, Missouri; Dora Frances Nance, Collins, Missouri; Mildred Margaret Hopkins, Flemington, Missouri; Viola May McCoy, Humansville, Missouri; and Virginia Rose Miller, Holden, Missouri; Many nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral services were Tuesday, April 25, 1995 at 1 P.M. at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, with Rev. Durward Scott officiating. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Hartley. Casketbearers were Ernest Roeder, Charles Brown, Larry Shelby, Pawle Wisner, Dale Roeder, Charles Sheldon. Interment was at the Freeman-Holsapple Cemetery, near Collins, Missouri, under the arrangement of Randy Sheldon, Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral home, Osceola, Missouri.
