[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 9, Ed. 1, Tree #2432, Date of Import: Oct 20, 2000] CALVIN LEROY FRANCIS Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Lake City, Minnesota, for Calvin Francis, 24-year old former St. Clair countian, who was struck and killed by lightning during a brief electrical storm last Thursday evening, April 20,1961. Attending the services at the First Congregational Church at Lake City, Minnesota were his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Moss Francis of Collins,Missouri; sister, Mrs. Harold Gumm of Collins,Missouri and cousin, Dick Harry Elliott, of Osceola, Missouri. Mr. Francis' widow and three dauaghters, Dena Lynn 4, Wendy Lee 3, and Susan Lori 8 months; his material grandmother, Mrs. Edith Rebecca Elliott of Osceola, Missouri and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Myrtle May Bellwood of El Dorado Springs, Missouri also survive. Rev. A. J. Ward of the Lake City Congregational church, of which Francis was a member, officiated at the funeral rites, and burial was in Lakewood Cemetery, Lake City, Minnesota. A native of St. Clair County, Mr. Francis was born Oct. 14, 1936, at Collins, Missouri and was a 1954 graduate of Osceola High School. Shortly after, he went to work for his uncle, Harry Calvin Francis, who manages the Lake City, Minnesota nursery. He and his family lived on the farm. He married the former Marsha Louise Frissell of Lake City Nov. 22, 1955. His death occurred instantly when he stepped out of his barn during the storm. His wife, who was in the barn helping with chores, said that lightning seemed to strike all the buildings on the farm, and that all fuses and light bulbs in the buildings burned out, a corner of the chicken house was struck, plus a tree. Her husband was dead when she ran out of the barn after hearing a loud clap, Mrs. Francis said.
