John Sutton arrived in the port town of Hingham, Mass. in 1638 from the town of Attleborough, England. He arrived on the HMS Diligent of Ipswich. This passage can be found on page 62 of, “The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Volume XCI, 1937.
In the “History of the Town of Hingham” vol. 3 p. 227, states: “John Sutton, his wife and four children came from Attleburaye and settled in New Hingham, Although no where can this be verified.
John Sutton, the passenger on the Diligent, who removed in 1643 to the town of Rehoboth, a place of religious tolerance, died there 1 June 1672 ( Vital Records of Rehoboth, p. 879)
” An inventory of the Goods and Chattles , ( totaling L 55-03-00 ) of John Sutton of Rehoboth deceased the first of June 1672 taken by Liettenant Peter Hunt, Ensigne Henery Smith and William Carpenter.” ( sb, vol. 3. pt. 1. p. 55 )

There are other researchers who believe John was the son of George Sutton, however, research has shown that George Sutton came to America in 1634 along with a Nathaniel Tilden who became the father-in-law of George when he married Sarah Tilden.and eventually moved his family to North Carolina. What I have entered here into my family tree is based on articles written in the New England Historical and Genealogy Register. What can be found there gives credence to John Sutton being the first of the family to settle in Massachusetts. One of the articles was written by Eugene Cole Zubrinsky an expert in the Sutton history.

Update: Based upon the latest article found in American Ancestors by Eugene Cole Zubrinksy who has written previous articles on this family and is considered an expert on the subject, I have corrected name of wife to show as Julian Judith Adcocke. He states that research has been done to prove that his update is correct.

I have shown Julian Adcocke as the spouse of John Sutton because the will of an Adcocke in the same town in England as Julian had a will where he bequeathed something to his granddaughter, Elizabeth Sutton, who we see is a daughter of John Sutton and hid daughter Julian. However, there is no mention of her after their migration to American, it can only lead me to believe that she died prior to 1638. One of the articles written by Mr. Zubrinsky also stated that Elizabeth did not come to America with her family. I haven't been able to find her death record as of yet.
a correction and/or addendum to his first article of 2013 correcting the name of his wife to Judeth Adcock.
