"Elizabeth Gudgeon is my g.g. grandmother. Her daughter Mary Denton was my grandmother. She had a brother called George. I have Elizabeth Gudgeon as married to William Denton on 29/12/1866 and believe she also had a family prior to that marriage (children Charles, Mary and John). I think Elizabeth's parents were John Gudgion and Mary Hide. At some point something went terribly wrong for the family as 3 of the children, Mary, George and John ended up in Ampthill Workhouse. Correspondence still exists regarding their subsequent apprenticeships and placements: Mary to a nearby household, George to a fisherman in Grimsby and John was sent to a keymaker in Walsall. I have not been able to find out what happened to William and Elizabeth - they seem to have dropped off the planet! Any light you can shed on the family or their ancestors would be much appreciated. Kind Regards, Jane" Source: Genesereunited 1841 aged 8, living at Little Lane, Clophill with parents, John and Mary Gudgin, widowed grandfather, James Hide, and siblings. 1851 aged 17, living at High Street, Clophill with parents, John and Mary Gudgin, and siblings. 1861 aged 27, living at Church Street, Clophill with her parents, John and Mary Gudgin, and children Mary and Charles Gudgin. 1871 aged 33, living at Church Street, Shillington with her husband, William Denton, son George Denton, and illegitimate children Charles Gudgin 16 and John Gudgin 6.
