GERARDUS DE LIMESI, son of Alanus de Limesi born about 1120-25 in England; Lord of Bradewell, Maxstox and Wolverley; after the birth of his son John, about 1160 or later, he gave the Church of Ichentune to the Priory of Hertford, and his charter was witnessed by his wife Amicia and brother Triannus (Charter Num.IV., Dugd.Monast). Girard de Limosie or Limesie flourished in Essex and Hertford in 1160-62, and Girard de Limesye was in Warwick and Leicestershire (Red Bk. Exch. 1:29-30, II: 693, 702, and Pipe Roll oc., V: 3, 71). Gerardus died probably 1176-85 when his son John appears in the records as head of the family (Pipe Roll Soc. XXV: 40).
In 1185, - Amicia de Limesia est in donatione Domini Regis, et est Ix annorum, que fuit filia Haveladi di Bid (une habit) ij filios, milites, quorum primogenitus vocatur Johannes de Limesia, plures habet filias, ipsa habet in ... xl solidatus tere de feodo Johannes de Limesia, et de co tenet (Rot. de Dominabus et Pueris etc., p 27, and Pipe Roll Soc., XXXV:51).
His wife Amicia was also called daughter of Trian or Hornelade de Bidum; she was born 1125, as she was aged 60 years in 1185, when she had two sons, the eldest called John de Limesia, and also many daughters, evidently not less than three; she died before her son John who died 1198-99. In 1199 Ex dono Gerardi de Limesi terra q fuit Rog. Silvani in Radmurtewik - was mentioned. (Rot.Chart.I: Part I;7b)
