= Margaret was a daughter of Hugh, second earl of Stafford, who died in 1386. A first wife of Ralph de Neville, she had nine children including John [1387 - 1423). John m Elizabeth Holland; Elizabeth was a daughter of Thomas Holland; Thomas was Earl of Kent and half brother of King Richard II. = John and Elizabeth had two sons, Ralph (d 1484) and John (d 1461). Ralph succeeded his grandfather as second Earl of Westmorland in 1425; his father had died two year before. John was Baron of Raby. = Ralph's only son having died in 1455, he was succeeded as third Earl of Westmorland by his nephew, Ralph (1456-1523), son of John (d 1461). Ralph (1456-1523) also succeeded his father John as baron of Raby. = In 1569 the Neville and Percy families of northern England plotted to overthrow Queen Elizabeth I. The rising failed, the Nevilles fled into exile, and their property was confiscated.
