KARL, Henry J. Henry J. Karl, 84, of Forestville, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, (October 28, 2004). Born in Baltimore, MD, he served in Worl War II in the Army Air Corp, retiring as a Major from the USAF. While serving abroad he met and married his wife, Lily, a British nurse. After the war they settled in Connecticut where he worked as the accountant for Superior Electric of Bristol, then for the Merrow Machine Company of Hartford. His fondest hobby was traveling with his wife until her untimely death in 1998. He continued to travel on his own, visiting relatives throughout the world. His activities included preparing Tax Returns at the Plainville Library in the IRS' VITA program and serving as an usher and Sunday School teacher at First Church of Christ in Farmington. He will be sadly missed by the residents of local nursing homes, whom he visited daily with his dog, Millie, to provide comfort and companionship. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Lily Caldwell Karl. He is survived by his sister, Eleanor, of Baltimore, and five children, John, of Hartford, Cherry of Stevensville, MD, Ken and his wife Ellen of Terryville, Lindsey and her husband Michael Cannon of West Hartford and David of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, as well as ten grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Jacky, Ainsley, Timothy, Wylie, Nicholas, Patricia, Gelseigh and Colin. He also leaves two sisters-in-law in the UK and over 30 nieces and nephews and their children around the world. Arrangements are entrusted to the Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home of New Britain. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 31, in the meetinghouse at First Church of Christ Congregational, 75 Main St., Farmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Henry's name may be made to the CT Race for the Cure, P.O. Box 566, New Britain, CT 06051.
