* Haines notes;- In this church one brass in the south corner-it is still in the church, but has been taken up from the floor, and is now mural against the wall of an annex-called a vestry hall. The Brass itself originally consisted of a man, and a woman, an inscription under them on a plate 6 inches(now lost) and a plate above them on a large size 8 1/2 inches by I 18 1/2 ins. on which are two verses written in Latin, the elegies bearing the initials J.G., the second Hexometers W,R. "
The verses make it clear that the person commemorated was in Holy orders and named Vincent Hougham. Brass 1600. • "In Christo Nortem Vincentivs Hvffam

*1613 Probate Registers of Canterbury.42/238 proved 30 Sept.1613 dated 7 Sept. Will of Vincent Hougham. He is described as "Clerke of Dover" and mentions his wife Alice, but no child, it also mentions his brothers, Thomas, Stephen, Edward, Christopher, {all living) and John, lately deceased. His brothers in law ,William Warde, now maier, and Thomas Forde, "One of the "jurates of Dover"-the last named two were overseers to his will, Money is left to the children of William Warde, The children of John Pettyman, the children of Thomas Forde and MARY his wife are called Robert Broome, and Alice Broome, and Thomas Forde, John Forde, etc., so it can be assumed that Thomas FordeTs wife (Alice?), had been married before to Mr Broome.-and to the children of Thomas Yonge. William Warde, mayor, and Thomas Forde a jurat of Dover , are overseers to will, and spoken of as Brothers in law.
Haslewoods Parish of Benenden.p.220-3.
* Vincent only had three sisters, namely Benet. Susan. and Elizabeth, it is stated by historians, and records, that Susan and. Benet were single, that leaves only Elizabeth to marry-hence some of above Brothers in law must be on his wife's side, * Ecclesiastical cause papers DCb/J/J/15/73 31 Jul 1610
