William “Bill” Edward Schipper, age 78, of Ackley, Iowa, was born the son of Ben and Tena (Mudderman) Schipper on September 14, 1935, near Kesley, Iowa. He grew up in the Kesley and Parkersburg area and attended country school near his home.
On April 27, 1956, Bill was united in marriage with Anna Mae Uhlenhopp at the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg, Iowa. After their marriage, Bill was a farm hand for several farmers including: Ole Janssen, Paul Abkes and Bruce Eckles. Bill then worked at the Ackley Canning Plant. He later worked at Farmland for twenty-two years and then at McDowell & Sons in Iowa Falls and Ackley. He retired in 1996.
Bill attended the First Presbyterian Church in Ackley where he served as a trustee and sang in the choir. Bill and Anna Mae were church custodians for 42 years. Bill loved being outdoors and tinkering in the garage. He could fix anything and was always willing to help anyone. His nickname was “Gentleman Bill”. Bill enjoyed fishing trips but mostly he loved visiting with people and spending time with his family.
Bill died Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna Mae; three children, Myron Schipper of Ackley, Janice Vonk of Des Moines, Iowa, and Ron (Kim) Schipper of Baxter, Iowa; five grandchildren, Michael (Linda) Thompson, Chris (fiance`, Morgan) Thompson, Amber Vonk, Lakin Schipper, and Lauryn Schipper; three step-grandchildren, McKenna Wigg, Shailey Wigg and Tristian Wigg; two great-grandchildren, Emmrick and Emmitt Thompson; one brother, George, (Jeanette) Schipper of Parkersburg, and one sister, Anna Mae Stahl of Wellsburg.
