In Sept. 1862 he enlisted in the Confederated Army near Cookeville, Tennessee. (8th Calvary, commanded by Col. G. G. Dibrill and in Conpany "C" , Capt J. S. Roberts). In the battle near Franklin, he received a gunshot wound in the left elbow. He did not take the oath of allegiance to the United States Government when he was paroled in May, 1865 at Washington, GA. He preserved his parole to 1899. Member of the Pat Cleburne Bivouac #27 in Cookeville, TN. ------------------------------------------------------------ Boatman, John Pvt. G/E CSR, Putnam, Pension, UCGA Cemetery Enlisted 9/14/62. Horse $140, equipment $15. Wounded in Battle on Nolensville Pike near Nashville. Paroled 5/9/1865. Probably captured. Farmer at Jeremiah in Putnam County. Born in 1841 in Jackson County. Pension #2344 in Putnam County on 11/23/1899. Accepted. States he was born in Grainger County 1/21/1842.States he was shot in left arm at Franklin Tennessee. States he was paroled on May 9th, 1865 at Washington, Georgia. Had wife and four children. John R. Waits vouched for him. Parole is in file. Member of the Pat Cleburne Bivouac #27 in Cookeville. Buried in the Paron Cemetery in Overton County. He died on 4/16/1928.
