PETRUS QUICK, bap. 2 Nov. 1707 in N.A.D. Ch. (BDC326); d 1768 or early 1769. He m MARIA GULICK, a granddaughter of Joakim Gulick, who came to America in 1653, settled first at Gravesend, L. I. He took the oath of Allegience in 1687. Previous to 1717 he moved to Six-Mile-Run, Somerset Co., where he owned 330 acres lying on both sides of the Ten-Mile-Run brook. He had 2 sons, John and Peter Gulick, but it is not known which was the father of Maria.
Petrus Quick (1707-1868-9) m Maria Gulick and was a farmer in the vicinity of Harlingen, Somerset County, N. J., locally called Sowerland--Sauerland, being near the easterly foot of Sourland Mt., and but a few miles east from the site of the recent country seat of Col. Lindbergh--the scene of the tragic kidnapping.
Harlingen church records of the early days were lost in some manner, but 1 November, 1770, records show that Maria, widow of Petrus (Peter), united with the Harlingen Reformed Church.
The Will of Petrus Quick, yeoman, dated 22 October, 1768, proved 23 February, 1769, gives his wife, Maria Gulick, the use of the home farm till son Peter is 21. It gives "son Tunis the farm where he lives, that I bought of Cornelis Van Arsdalen, also 50 acres of woodland along the line of Hendrik Harder." Gives "son Jochem the farm where he lives, that I bought of Peter Dumont." Gives "son Jacobus (James) the farm where he lives, that I bought of Robert Letts Hooper and Philip Kearney." Gives "son Peter, when he comes of age, the farm I live on, that I bought of Hendrik Hoogeland and John Jewel." Gives "daughters Vrowtye (Quick, ancestor of the present U. S. Senator Frederick Van Nuys, of Indiana), Geertye and Neeltye o500 each."
