He served in Company C, 43rd AL Volunteers at the rank of Captain. He enrolled
20 Jun 1862 at Clinton AL. His commission expired 16 Dec 1862 at Cumberland Gap
TN. He enrolled again on 20 Sep 1863 and he died in 1888 of wounds received
during the war. He was a farmer & merchant and lived in Union AL, Vienna AL, &
in Pickens Co AL. He was a Presbyterian.

Samuel Wylie McALILEY (24 Sep 1836 Chester Co SC - 28 Jan 1888 Greene Co AL) first married Mary Ridley Jordon LANIER (7 Mar 1837 Pickens Co AL - 13 Sep 1872 Greene Co AL) and had at least three children. Mary is buried in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. He then married Isabella L. (HIGGENBOTHAM) WEBSTER (31 Aug 1838 AL - 19 Aug 1907 Greene Co AL). Isabella had married James R. WEBSTER on 26 Jun 1858 in Greene Co AL. Samuel enrolled in the Confederate Army, Co. C, 43rd AL Volunteers, on 20 Jun 1862 at Clinton AL and his commission expired on 16 Dec 1862 at Cumberland Gap TN. He enrolled again on 20 Sep 1863 and died fromwounds received in the War. In 1907, Isabella stated that she was confined to bed with paralysis and was without means or children for support, and was an object of charity. They lived in Eutaw AL (Greene Co).a.
