Herbert Kittrell Obituary
Herbert Oliver Kittrell, 86, passed away January 26, 2022. He was born in Beaumont, Mississippi on January 30, 1935. Herbert was a graduate of Beaumont High School and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned double degrees in accounting and business administration. While still in college, Herbert got a job in New Orleans for the U.S. General Accounting Office where he was an internal auditor for the federal government. He held that position for 12 years. Afterwards, he became regional director of internal affairs for U.S. Customs. He retired from Customs in 1982. He then took a position as business manager for LSU Pediatrics Department at LSU Medical School in New Orleans. Herb also served in the Army Reserve for 30 years with the 377th TAACOM. He started as a private with various units and worked his way up to a full Colonel. It was an accomplishment that he was most proud of. In 1989, he achieved a Masters Degree in business administration. Along with his other achievements, he attained a private pilot license and, along with 3 friends, purchased a small plane. They remained in a flying club together for many years. Herbert is survived by his sons, Chris Kittrell (Susan) and Leslie Kittrell. He is also survived by grandsons, Christopher Kittrell (Brittany) and Jordan Kittrell (Courtney); great granddaughter, Ellie; and brother, Mitch Kittrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glynda Hinton Kittrell; parents, Willie Gertrude Kittrell and Forrest Kittrell; and sisters, Catherine Kittrell Gordon and Lois Kittrell Lott. Many thanks to his caretaker, Bonnie Grows, whom he loved dearly. Pallbearers are Christopher Kittrell, Jordan Kittrell, Caleb Hinton, Yancey Lott, Alec Kittrell, and Justin Kittrell. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Moore Funeral Home Hattiesburg Chapel from 12:30 p.m. until religious services at 2 p.m.

My condolences to the family of a true, loyal American who loved mankind. I met Captain Kittrell in 1975 as a member of the 4010th USAR Hospital (1000B). Some time later, he left the 4010th and I later contacted him again when I was a Federal police officer. At that time he was Director of Internal Affairs in New Orleans. In 1983, I became a Customs Service Patrol Officer. Years later, Colonel Kittrell was reassigned to the 4010th briefly. He retired before I retired from the Army Reserve. We never crossed paths again. Colonel Kittrell was one of the few conscientious individuals I have known coupled with true integrity. I apologize for my late entry. I recently became aware of Herb's promotion to Heaven. Thank you for sharing Mr. Herbert Oliver Kittrell with us. Dominus vobiscum.

Chris, Les and family,
I was saddened to learn of Herb´s passing. I always enjoyed the working and personal relationship that we had at GAO and Customs. Although our paths had not crossed in many years, I considered him a good friend. My condolences to you and your family.

My condolences to the family over their father/grandfather´s passing. Herb and I had many great times via the 4010th USAR Hospital, either at the monthly drills or taking Command and General staff course via USAR school in Roswell,NM. Several times a year we would leave New Orleans late Friday evening and fly to Roswell. We sat in class all Saturday and Sunday and caught a plane back to New Orleans late Sunday PM. Classes were held at the reserve unit facilities next to airport, so it was very convenient. He was a wonderful individual who was very patriotic. I loved to hear him talk in that slow manner with his southern accent. RIP Herb!
