Bill died after a short battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, William D. Bridges Sr. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Bridges; his loving wife of 44 years, Linda; his two sons, William D. Bridges III and wife Holly and Chad Bridges; two grandchildren, Melana and Brandon; two sisters, Vickie Rackley and Rachel Leary; and several nieces and nephews. He was a lifelong resident of Wilmington and graduated from New Hanover High School in 1959. Afterwards he served honorably in the NC National Guard. Bill was a licensed NC Electrical Contractor and spent his early working years with Graves Electric Company. He founded Bayside Electric Supply Co. in 1990 with the headquarters in Wilmington and a branch in Southport, NC. He served as President and CEO. While his business and professional life consumed much of his time, he was active in many organizations. Bill was chairman of the Airlie Garden Luncheon committee for the NC Azalea Festival, as well as many other hospitality events for the past 30 years. He was a member of the Pine Valley Country Club and active in the Bradley Creek boating community, as well as having many other boating friends. Over the years Bill participated in the Sertoma Club, New Hanover County Electrical Contractors Association, National Association of Electrical Distributors, Cape Fear Club, Optimist Club, and the Chamber of Commerce.
