By the death of his 2nd cousin, he became 4th Lord Falconer of Halkerton. His sister married Joseph Home of Ninewells and was mother of David Home, or Hume, the philosopher.
Inglismaldie Castle [coordinate: N56.79211 W2.58481] in Marykirk parish, SW Kincardineshire, within ¼ mile of the North Esk's left bank, and 6 miles SW of Laurencekirk. An old castellated edifice, surrounded with extensive woods.
After the Reformation, the Inglismaldie church lands were came into the possession of a branch of the Livingstone family, the king granting a charter in 1588 to John Livingstone of Dunipace for various lands, including Over, Middle and Nether Egglismaldie in Kincardineshire.
The Livingstones were still here in 1631, but in 1635, the lands passed to Sir John Carnegie, Sheriff of Forfar, who, having been created 1st Earl of Ethie, later changed his titles by royal consent, to Earl of Northesk and Baron Rosehill and Inglismaldie.
David obtained the property before his marriage (all his children were born in Inglismaldie).
Inglismaldie remained with this family until modern times, when it passed from their hands, to be bought again in 1925 by Major Adrian Keith-Falconer, a cousin of the earl. He and his wife died in 1959 and since 1960, the castle has been in the appreciative possession of a member of the Ogilvie family.
