Fred graduated from South High School in 1961 and Miami University (Ohio) in 1965. He joined his family business, Canteen Services, Inc., in 1965, and spent his career as President and CEO fostering and growing the business into one of the most respected vending and food service management businesses. Until he retired in 2008, Fred remained active in the business as Chairman of the Board. He was a leader and innovator in the vending industry, and was Chairman of the Michigan Distributors and Vendors Association. Fred was active in and supportive of the West Michigan community, sharing his leadership by serving on Boards of several organizations including Westminster Presbyterian Church, Davenport University Foundation, the American Red Cross, the United Way, Central Bank, the Peninsular Club, and the Big Star Lake Foundation. Fred was happiest with his wife and family by his side. He rarely missed an opportunity to be with his children and grandchildren, whether it was at a school activity or family gathering. He especially loved being at Big Star Lake with Sukey, fishing with his grandchildren, and relaxing with his friends. He was an avid golfer, and could often be found on the fairways of Blythefield Country Club and Thousand Oaks Golf Club.
