Baptism record preserved at St Dunstan's; christened by Rev. Samuel Cottesford. He kept a house on the London Waterfront, Figtree Yard in Ratcliffe. He also owned rental property in Ship Alley and Ratcliffe. In his will, he left fine clothes, a library, rental property, 100 acres of land in Bermuda, and mining property.
From 1632 to 1650, he was captain of various ships, such as Dorset of London, Virginia Merchant [sank in 1660, discovered and salvaged in 1950], Gillyflower, and James, sailing between England, Somers Isles (Bermuda), Newfoundland, and Virginia.
The "Dorset" sailed from Gravesend, Kent with John Flower master and 95 passengers for Bermuda 30 September 1635.
He transported fleeing Royalist officers to Virginia, along with many other colonists.
He was an investor in John Alcock & Co., Marmushan Co., and the Bermuda Co. operating in Bermuda, and principal partner in John Flower & Co., operating in Virginia. ; He was a pioneer land owner in Bermuda, and an investor in East country English mines.
In 1640 in purchased from Jeremy Dickinson 200 acres "lying opposite to Swan Bay in Upper Chippokes Creek" (later Surry Co., Virginia).

..........To all to whom these presents shall come, greeting in our Lord God Everlasting whereas by patent bearing date ye 7th Day of September, Anno Domo, 1638 and in the fourteenth yeare of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord, King Charles, it was granted unto Thomas Plum[m]er and Samuel Edmunds, four hundred acres of land situate[d] lying and being at the upper Chipoak Creek, Easterly upon the Mayne Creeke, North upon a Little Creek, West into the woods and Southerly upon the Mayne Creeke (as by the said Patent given under the hand of Sr John Harvey Knt. Govern[or] & and the Seal of the Colony with the consent of the Council of State doth and may appeare) and wheras the above named Thomas Plum[m]er hath by assignment under his hand) bearing date, the fourteenth of October, Anno Domo, 1639, bargained and sold unto Jeremiah Dickinson his part and share of the said devident being two hundred acres lying upon the Southerly side of land now in the tenure and occupation of Robert Newton and extending Westerly into the woods (as by the said assignment doth appeare) Now, know ye that I, the said Jeremiah Dickinson for a good and reasonable consideration in hand received for the which I do hereby acknowledge myself fully contented, satisfied and paid have given, granted, bargained and sold and for me, my heirs, Executors and Administrators, do give grant, [alein?], bargain and sell unto John Flowers, Marrinor, his heires and assigns forever, the said two hundred acres of land situate[d] lying and being as aforesaid given and by these presents granting unto the said John Flowers, his heires and assignes full right, title claim and interest in and to the said two hundred acres of land with the appurtenants, with all rights and privileges in the said Patent expressed as fully absolutely and surety as it was granted unto the above named Thomas Plum[m]er and Samuel Edmonds and as it doth by assignment belong or appertain unto me the said Jeremy Dickinson, my heirs, executors
