"Before he was twenty-one years old he married his cousin, AnnEdmunds, born January 27, 1771. She was the daughter of a prominent merchant of New York, in prosperous business before the Revolution, but during this struggle deprived of his property by the British. She remembered distinctly seeing the English army coming into the city, when she was a girl of only five years, while with her father's family she was carried away in a boat, that contained all the goods they contrived to save from the hands of the spoilers. She survived her husband thirty-two years, dying in 1861, aged ninety. They were the parents of eleven children, of whom but three, Mrs. Sarah Ann Conard, Mrs. Eliza W. Addis, and Mrs. Rebecca M. Dungan, are still living. When the mother died there were living of their descendants sixty-five grandchildren, two hundred and thirteen great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren."/ photocopies in my possession

Elder Thomas B. Montanye (mentioned on the foregoing page) was the son of Benjamin Montanye, born in the city of New York, there baptized by Elder John Gano when young. ; Entered upon the Gospel ministry when a little over 18 years of age; was for several years Pastor of the Baptist church at Warwick in Orange County, N.Y. Removed to Southampton, Bucks Co., Pa, in 1801 and continued there until his death. He was a fairthful preacher-- Sound in doctrine of more than ordinary talents--Excellent in counsel and quite successful in his ministry. He was a particular friend of mine; we were often in company at our respective firesides, as well as mingling in associations and other meetings--We were Executors to the will of D[eacon?] Silas Hough who died Mary 15, 1823, and closed the concern in about 2 years.
There was the utmost harmony between us and we reposed unshaken confidence in each other--He was taken ill with the jaundice in the summer of 1829--and on the 27th of September in that year he died in the 61st year of his age--I was requested to deliver a discourse at his interment which I attempted from Phil. I: 21: "For me to live in Christ and to die is gain." A number of Ministers--and a large concourse of relatives and other citizens attended to mingle their sympathies and to pay their last tribute of respect to the [?] dead. "The memory of the Just is blessed." His widow is still living among her children. It affords myself as well as her & family a mournful pleasure to meet once in a while to talk of past occurrences. (Recorded June 28th 1839)
