Dr. John Apperson served in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Stubblefield's Co., Col. Greene's Regt. for three months in 1780 and had another tour of duty for three months in 1781 in Capt. Taylor's Co., Col. Merriweather's Regt. Dr. John and Alcey Favor Apperson made their home in Abingdon, Washington Co., VA, until 1822 when they moved about twelve miles away and lived until 1829 at which time they decided to go west and settled in Franklin Co., MO. They were the parents of twelve children.
