Succeeded to his grandfather?s barony as 2° B. Norreys of Rycote and also to the estates of his uncle Sir Edward Norreys. In 1621 Francis was created Earl of Berkshire. He left no sons and the earldom became extinct, but the barony descended to his daughter Elizabeth (d. 1645), the wife of Edward Wray (d. 1658). Their daughter Bridget (b. 1627 - d. 1657) married as his second husband Montagu Bertie, 2nd Earl of Lindsey, and their son James Bertie (1654?1699) became Baron Norris (or Norreys) in 1657, and was created Earl of Abingdon ifl 1682. His descendants the Berties, earls of Abingdon, still hold this barony, and are the present representatives of the family of Norris.

BARONY OF NORREYS OF RYCOTE
II. 2. FRANCIS (NORRIS), LORD NORRIS, grandson and heir, being son and heir of William NORRIS, by Elizabeth his wife. He was born 6, and baptized 19 July 1579, at Wytham, Berks. He was summoned to Parliament on 17 October 1601, and took his seat 21 November following. K.B. 6 January 1604/5. He was present at the creation of Henry, Prince of Wales, 1610, and of Charles, Prince of Wales, 1616; Cupbearer at the installation of the Elector Palatine as K.G., 1613. He was created, 28 January 1620/1, VISCOUNT THAME and EARL OF BERKSHIRE, but does not appear to have taken his seat. He married, very shortly after 28 April 1599, at Chenies, Bridget, 2nd daughter (whose issue, in 1625, became coheirs) of Edward (DE VERE), EARL OF OXFORD, by his 1st wife, Anne, daughter of William (CECIL), 1st BARON BURGHLEY. She, who was born 6 April 1584, was living separated from him in 1606. He died s.p.m. legitimate, aged 42, at Rycote, of wounds inflicted by himseIf, 29 January 1621/2, when the Earldom of Berkshire and Viscountcy of Thame became extinct. His widow appears to have died between December 1630 and May 1631.
