born in Lathom and Knowsley, Lancashire "Of Lancaster, England"
The issue of Sir Thomas were Thomas, son and heir, Edward, S. P. (Alius Thome de Lathom Militis Junior. June 1377. Lyme deeds) and Isabel, afterwards Lady Stanley, issue by the marriage with Jane Venables in the Pedigrees of the Herald's College, but more probably sprung from that with Isabel de Pilkington.3
Edward de Lathom, after receiving Parbold from his father, (fn. 8) was further endowed with a fourth part of the manor of Wrightington by his elder brother Sir Thomas, (fn. 9) and these manors appear in later times to have been treated as one.
Sir Thomas was Commissioner of Array in Lancaster with special powers in the Earl of Lancaster's rebellion 1322 and 1323. He was Chief Custos of the Peace, 1323, Knight of the Shire 1324, one of the three chief arrayers of Lancaster before Queen Isabella's return in 1326. He took an active part against the Scots, 1325, and received in 1347 charter of free warren in Latham, Knowselegh, Childwall, Roby and Anlasargh. He bore arms as given in the roll of arms, 1337: "Or, on a chief indented azure three besants." The will of Thomas de Lathum, dated 1369, translated reads:
"In the name of God amen, on the holy day of the exaltation of our king, in the year of our Lord 1369, I, Thomas de Lathum, sound of mind and body, make my will after this manner. In the first place I dedicate my soul to God and to our Mary and to all the Saints, and my body to be buried in the grounds and the Church of Nicholas de Burscogh, and I wish my funeral and rites to be performed according to the disposition of my executors. First. I leave to the prior and to the canons of our Nicholas de Burscogh to hold me in special memory, to worship for me, 100 shillings. Likewise to the Augustine friars at Weryngton, 5 marks. Item. to the lesser friars of Preston, 40 Shillings. Item. to the preaching Cistercian friars, 40 shillings. Item. to the priest of Doggles and Caldi, 2 marks. Item. to Edward my son, 5 marks. Item. to Robert my son, 5 marks. Item. to Roger Banaster, 5 marks. Item. for distribution among my serfs for their good service 10 marks. Item. to Margery, daughter of Philip, 20 shillings, and after the liquidation of my debts, I give the remainder of my goods for charitable purposes and in prayers for my soul and the soul of my wife Eleanor. Now of this my will, I constitute three executors that by their (peril?) they answer to me before the highest Judge. John de Kirby; Sir Edward my son, and Robert my son, prior of Burscogh. Eleanor: Daughter of Sir John le Ferrers, Chevalier by his wife Hawise, Lady of Charlton, Norton, etc. (The complete Peerage, Vol 5, page 596). "

"The early history of PARBOLD is involved in that of Wrightington. Before 1242 it had come into the hands of Robert de Lathom, who held it of the lord of Manchester by the service of the fourth part of a knight's fee. (fn. 4) Robert de Lathom gave it to Richard his son and his issue, and Richard had four daughters·Äî Lucy, Alice, Katherine and Cecily. Two died without issue, and in 1351 the claimants were Henry de Trafford in right of his wife Lucy daughter of Alice, and Thomas son of Richard de Bradshagh of Pennington by Cecily his wife. (fn. 5) The Lathoms of Tarbock and their heirs also claimed the manor of Parbold (fn. 6) ; but the head of the family, Sir Thomas de Lathom, recovered the whole and granted it to his younger son Edward, (fn. 7) ancestor of the Lathoms who continued to hold the manor down to the end of the 17th century.
The beautiful Seal of this knight, representing an eagle displayed, charged on the breast with his shield armorial, was attached to a grant of part of Wrightington to his brother Edward Lathom of Parbold, and also to a grant to his younger son Edward and his contracted wife Ellen daughter of John le Botiller of Merton."
--- From Miscellanea Palatina, 1850: Thomas de Lathom, son and heir of this Sir Robert, did homage in 18 Edward II, to the king as Lord of West Derby, on his succession to Lathom, and occurs in numerous rolls of summons and royal charters from that period to 1370, when he died, leaving issue, Thomas, son and heir, by his wife Eleanor, daughter of Sir John de Ferrers, as by Inquisition post mortan after mentioned. His arms are given in a roll of arms, 1337-50:^ " Or, on a chief indented, azure, three besauts".-
"Parbold was held by Richard de Lathom in the time of King John ; and his great-grandson, Edward Lathom, is styled " of Parbold," in the 39th Edward III.
In the 9th Elizabeth, the Manor was held by Richard Lathom Esq. and continued in his family until the beginning of the eighteenth century, when the Hall, a spacious edifice of free stone, was built."

SIR THOMAS DE LATHAM was born Abt. 1230 in Mosbrough, Lancashire, England. He married ELEANOR DE FERRERS. Notes for SIR THOMAS DE LATHAM:
Thomas was grantee of Mosborough and lands in Raynsforth from his brother Sir Robert, in 1292. From him are descended the Lathams of Mosbrough.
