From the German Wikipedia page on the Udalrichinger family (which carries Udalrich's name):
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udalrichinger
The Udalrichinger were a Franconian-Alemannic noble family based in Bregenz and Winterthur, which existed from the 8th to the 11th century. The namesake was Count Udalrich I, son of Gerold von Anglachgau and brother of Hildegard and thus a brother in law of Charlemagne. These belonged to the imperial nobility, were from the second half of the 8th century wealthy in the Lake Constance region and gained great influence there. They had counties in Alp-, Breis-, Thur-, Linz-, Argen- and Hegau. Their opponents were the Hunfridinger, who ruled in Râ§tien. The attempt of the Udalrichinger to conquer this area failed despite royal approval. In 839 they lost large parts of their counties on Lake Constance to the Welfs, but they regained their position in 854 and even extended their rule through the good relationship with the Carolingians on Pannonia, the Klett, the Nibel and the Rheingau. Around 1040, the sex divided into the three lines Buchhorn, Bregenz and Pfullendorf.
