John Russell, 1st Earl of Bedford

In the spring of 1526 he married Anne Sapcote (alias Shapcote),
daughter of Sir Guy Sapcote of Huntingdonshire by his wife Margaret Wolston.[16]
She had been twice widowed.
Her first husband was John Broughton (d. 24 January 1518)[17][18] of Toddington, Bedfordshire, by whom she had a son and three daughters:
John Broughton (d.1528).
Katherine Broughton (d. 23 April 1535), who was the ward firstly of Cardinal Wolsey, and secondly Agnes, Duchess of Norfolk, who married Katherine, as his first wife, to her eldest son, William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham.[19][20][21]
Anne Broughton (d. 16 May 1562),[22][23][24] who married, as his second wife, by dispensation dated 24 May 1539, Sir Thomas Cheyney, Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports.[25][26] There is a monument to her at Toddington.[27]
Daughter whose name is unknown, and who died between July 1517 and 1529.[28]
Anne Sapcote's second husband was Sir Richard Jerningham (d.1525), by whom she had no issue.[29]
As indicated by the armorials painted on the monument of Russell's granddaughter, Elizabeth Bourchier, Countess of Bath, at Tawstock in Devon, (Sable, three dovecotes argent)
Anne Sapcote was from the family usually known as Shapcote, which originated on the estate of Shapcote in the manor of Knowstone, North Devon. On 25 May 1500 Sir John Shapcot, Knight, as patron by proxy of Tawstock Church, appointed as rector Thomas Bourchier.[30]
They had only one child, a son and heir:

John Russell, 1st Earl of Bedford, born 1485, died 1554/55 and
Anne, his Countess, died 1559.
She was the only child of Sir Guy Sapcote and heiress, through her maternal grandmother of Cheynes and Seamark.
She married -
1. Sir John Broughton of Torrington
2. Sir Richard Jerningham
3. John Russell
She brought the Chenies and Thornhaugh estates and built the Bedford Chapel. (from Bucks Visitations - Russells inherited Chenies under the will of Dame Agnes Cheney through her niece Anne Seamark, wife of Sir William Sapcote and mother of Sir Guy Sapcote).
In the chancel is the oldest completed monument in the Chapel, early 16th c. most probably of Italian workmanship. Executed in red-veined alabaster, probably from Derbyshire, entirely uncoloured. The sides of the tomb chest are panelled, ornamented with pilasters, arabesques in relief and inlaid with Venetian Renaissance motifs of lozenges and roundels of clouded black marble and polished flint. Carved shields with achievement of arms are in each panel and at ends - eight in number. Recumbent effigies of the Earl and Countess, hands joined and raised in the attitude of prayer - the Earl's figure clad in plate armour with the collar and mantle of the Garter, coronet and cross hilted sword. The head is on a helmet with goat couchant crest, mantling arranged to cover the hollow end and the feet on a lion. The face is modelled from a portrait of the Earl, by Holbein, in Woburn Abbey and indicates the droop of the eyelid over the eye which was damaged by an arrow at the siege of Morlaix in 1523.
His wife is in robes of a Peeress, with the coronet and also with long hair. The feet are on a heraldic antelope couchant, gorged with a coronet and chain reflexed over back.
The monument was erected by their son Francis, 2nd Earl and its position changed since Scharf compiled his book.

SUMMARY: The document below is the Prerogative Court of Canterbury copy of the will, dated 19 August 1558 and proved 21 March 1559, of Anne Sapcote (d. 14 March 1559).

The testatrix was the daughter and coheir of Sir Guy Sapcote by his wife, Margaret Wolston, the daughter and coheir of Sir Guy Wolston (d.1504) by Margaret Tamworth (d.1476). She had a sister, Elizabeth Sapcote (d. 18 August 1548), who married firstly John Stile (d.1505), and secondly Sir James Yarford (d.1527), Lord Mayor of London.
