Vocht in 1288 met zijn halfbroer Hertog Jan I van Brabant in de slag bij Woeringen.
Hij huwde Yda van Wersingen.

kapitein-gouverneur van Tiel toen hij aldaar streed met Hertog Jan I van Brabant tegen Gelre.

Overleden omstreeks 1295.

J.-Th. De Raadt vermeldt dat een Gillis van der Balct gevangen werd bij de slag van Baesweiler en dat hij voor de gevechten tegen Gelre een vergoeding ontving. zie Historie der stad en meyerye van 'sHertogenbosch - volume 1 - Door Johan Hendrik van Heurn blz 120 vermeldt : Hendrik liet behalve deze kinderen noch eenen bastaardzoon na, Gillis genaamd, die in het jaar 1288 in den vermaarde slag van Woeringen zich bevond en van wien dat het adellijk geslacht van der Balcht afstamd.

Gillis van der Balcht fl 1286 : «de Brabant, qui est de sable à un lion d’or armé & lampasséde gueules, à une cotice componée d’argent et de gueules brochante.

'Oudste huis' van Breda heet terecht Van Brecht
BREDA - Van het een komt het ander. Zo zou je de totstandkoming van het boek ‘Het Huis Van Brecht’ van Jacques Brinkhof zeer beknopt kunnen samenvatten. Het is het zevende exemplaar uit een reeks historische publicaties die wordt uitgebracht onder auspiciën van de Stichting Historische Verzameling KMA.

Bastaardzoon

Het boek begint in 1260, het geboortejaar van stamvader Gillis van Brecht, bastaardzoon van hertog Hendrik III van Brabant en Joanna van der Balcht uit het thans Belgische Brecht. Het eindigt in 1607, als Anna, de laatste ‘Bredase’ Van Brecht, de woning en andere bezittingen, zoals kasteel Bouvigne en kasteel Dussen verkoopt en vertrekt naar het katholieke zuiden.
