Beroepen van Jan: Timmerman, Tolgaarder, landbouwer, Dagloner. Na hun huwelijk in Februari 1865 vertrekken Jan en Mechtelina op 6 juli van datzelfde jaar vanuit Brummen naar Zutphen. Op 29-07-1874 vertrekken ze vervolgens vanuit Zutphen naar het buurtschap Borgele (nr. 33) in Diepenveen bij Deventer. Jan komt, op 11 augustus 1885,in het "Ziekenhuis aan den Singel" te Deventer te overlijden en laat dan zijn zwangere vrouw Mechtelina met 7 kinderen achter.
