De naam Poot is een andere benaming voor een wilgenteen.

Wilgentenen zijn buigzame takken waarvan men allerlei voorwerpen kon maken zoals vlechtmatten. Dit vlechtwerk diende als zinkstuk (horden) om klei en veen vast te houden. Ook was het een ondergrond voor dijklichamen. Ze gebruikten deze wilgentenen in de middeleeuwen voor landaanwinning;

het zogenaamde "Pooten en Nooten",

Pieter Pietersz.Poot bezat ook "Het land in de Pooten", vermoedelijk buitendijks land dat zijn

weduwe verkocht aan haar stiefzoon.,

Het is niet met zekerheid te zeggen of Pieter Pietersz.Poot, vermeld in de 10'penning van

Vlaardinger-Ambacht in 1553, dezelfde persoon was die met Lijsbeth Huijbrechtsdr.gehuwd was of

dat we hier te maken hebben met een vader en een zoon.,
