Deze tak van "Mossen" uit Drenthe, Overijssel (Staphorst) en Gelderland heeft tot 1766 terugkijkend geen verbinding met de Scheveningse "Mossen", al is een enkeling wel daar naartoe verhuisd. De herkomst van de familienaam "Mos" blijft onduidelijk, zodat er ook meerdere, los van elkaar staande, takken kunnen bestaan.

Deze tak komt dus voor in deze oostelijke provincies, maar er is ook nog een andere tak die voorkomt in de omgeving Arnhem/Nijmegen, waarvan ook het verband met deze tak niet is terug te vinden.
