In deze publicatie is de stamboom opgenomen van mijn voorouders, de familie Monkel. Tevens is de stamboom uitgewerkt van de meisjesnaam van mijn moeder, de familie Tigchelaar. In de betreffende genealogie zijn alle mannelijke nazaten opgenomen. Dus als een dochter huwde en kinderen kreeg zijn deze nakomelingen niet vermeld.

De oorsprong van de familiegeschiedenis ligt vrijwel geheel in Friesland. Voor wat betreft mijn achternaam Monkel werd in eerste instantie gedacht in de richting van Frankrijk vanwege een mogelijke verbastering van "mon oncle" of Vlaanderen omdat aldaar het werkwoord "monkelen" nog regelmatig in het taalgebruik voorkomt.
