Notes about Adriana van Schaick

Geboorte: doop werd (waarschijnlijk) gedaan door de Ottersumse pastoor Sigbertus Peeters (pastoor van 1859-1873)

Tot in 1972 prijkte het wevershuis, dat op deze (niet aanwezige) foto te bewonderen valt, nog aan de Oudebaan. De foto dateert van 1971 en het boerderijtje werd toen bewoond door Frans Thiessen (Thijsssen) en zijn vrouw Wevers Dien. Dien is er geboren. Behalve Dien bestond de Wèversfamilie uit Wevers Gert, Wevers Door, Wevers Stien, Wèvers Kobus, Wèvers Wim en Wevers Mrie. Van deze generatie heeft echter niemand meer daadwerkelijk het weversvak uitgeoefend. Dit heeft nog wel hun vader Toon de Wèver (Derksen) gedaan. Hij was met Wèvers Aant (van Schaijk) in het wèvershuis (dat overigens begin vorige eeuw verder naar achteren het veld in moet hebben gestaan)
ingetrouwd. Samen met zijn schoonvader Wevers Kobus, Bertus-ome en Cis-ome (allen Van Schaijken, waarvan de laatste twee later aan de Zwarteweg woonden) maakte men lakens op een weefgetouw. In feite zijn niet "de Derksen" maar "de van Schaijken" de echte wevers geweest in ons dorp. Ieder van die wevers had zijn eigen afzetmarkt. Met vier kruiwagens moet men er vroeger op uitgetrokken zijn. Eén naar Middelaar, één naar Groesbeek, één naar Ottersum en één naar Gennep. De wevers bereikten daardoor een redelijke welstand. Het weven moet ongeveer in 1920 zijn gestopt. Het weefgetouw heeft nog tot aan de oorlog onder de pannen gehangen en was zo'n 2 meter breed. Het "wèvershuus" heeft een vrij traditioneel uiterlijk voor de boerderijtjes, die in het begin van de vorige eeuw zijn gebouwd. Lage zijgevels, een half rieten dak, een deur waardoor men rechtstreeks de woonkeuken binnenkwam en uiteraard een kelder met een opkamertje. Tot 1925 is er nog een bedstee in huis aanwezig geweest. Verder was ook hier langs de weg de meidoornhaag aanwezig met vóór het huis aan de zuidzijde "den hof" en in dit geval bijna rondom het huis de fruitbomen. In 1972 is deze mooie oude woning afgebroken. Lang voordien had de bebouwing van de grond, die bij de boerderij hoorde, al een aanvang genomen. Een gedeelte van de woningen langs de Oudebaan, de Distelstraat en de Koenselberg staan op de grond, die deel uitmaakte van het erf en de huisakker van de Wevers.
