Hij woont aanvankelijk als gepensioneerd soldaat in huisnr. 6 te Sappemeer. Vanaf januari 1831 is hij schipper, wonende aan boord, maar met zijn officiële domicilie nog in Sappemeer. Vanaf 1838 is hij winkelier, vanaf 1841 tapper in huisnr. A3 te Martenshoek, onder Hoogezand. Na 1843 zal de familie naar elders zijn verhuisd.
