Notes about Aad Bos

Aad Bos, voormalig radiopresentator en muzieksamensteller bij de VARA, is na een kort ziekbed op 88-jarige leeftijd in zijn woonplaats Laren overleden. Dat meldt zijn dochter.

Bos gold als groot jazzkenner en werkte van 1953 tot 1992 bij de VARA-radio en daarna tot aan zijn pensioen in 1996 nog enkele jaren voor de VPRO.

Hij begon zijn carrière als muzieksamensteller en medepresentator van het bij natuurliefhebbers populaire radioprogramma Weer of geen weer van Bert Garthoff. Daarnaast presenteerde hij diverse programma’s voor de VARA, zoals Z.I., Radio Jazz Magazine (samen met vriend Michiel de Ruyter) en And all that jazz.

In 1992 besloot de VARA de jazzprogrammering wegens bezuinigingen te schrappen en werd Bos ontslagen. Een actie om hem tot zijn veertigjarig jubileum bij die omroep te laten blijven, liep volgens Beeld en Geluid spaak. Bos kon echter meteen aan de slag de VPRO, waar hij nog enkele jaren VPRO-jazz op vier presenteerde. Hij ontving in 1998 een Bird Award (de tegenwoordige Paul Acket Award) voor zijn bijdrage aan de jazz.
