Helena Eilderts, age 81, of Aplington, Iowa, was born March 21, 1925 in Aplington, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Lena Johnson Schipper. She received her education in Ripley Township School No. 8. Helena was united in marriage with Steno T. Eilderts on February 28, 1947 in the bride’s home. The couple lived in Aplington all their married life. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Aplington where she was a member of Ruth Circle and participated in other church activities. Helena was a homemaker who enjoyed growing her flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed family travel, especially the trips across the country with their camper. She very much enjoyed music and had the ability to play piano by ear. The Schipper family always enjoyed making music together. Helena died Saturday, February 17, 2007, at her home in Aplington of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steno on October 6, 2002; one grandson, Jeremy Nulton; four brothers, Andrew, George, John and Henry Schipper and one sister, Anna Marks. Helena is survived by three daughters, Joan Nulton, Arlington Heights, Illinois; Judy Sagendorf, McHenry, Illinois and Janet (Bob) Pesicka, Johnston, Iowa; three grandchildren, Greg and Mark Pesicka and Nancy (Eric) Olsen; and two great-grandchildren, Skyler and Zachary Olsen and one expected any day; three sisters, Kate Aalderks, Kesley, Iowa; Grace (Donald) Huisman, Wellsbug, Iowa, and Hattie (Edwin) Behrends, Wellsburg, Iowa; three brothers, Harvey (Esther) Schipper, Aplington, Iowa, Paul (Irma) Schipper, Parkersburg, Iowa, and Lee (Dorothy) Schipper, Aplington, Iowa; and three sisters-in-law, Alberta Schipper, Parkersburg, Iowa, Jennie Schipper and Effie Schipper both of Aplington, Iowa. Funeral Services were 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2007, First Reformed Church, Aplington, Iowa with Pastor Harlan DeJong officiating. Organist was Lois Wessels. Vocalist Randy Aalderks sang “O What a Savior” and “How Great Thou Art”. Congregational Hymns were “He Hideth My Soul”. “Walking In Sunlight All of My Journey” and “Oh That Will Be Glory for Me”. Casketbearers were Jerald Eilderts, Verlyn Schipper, Dean Huisman, Daryl Folken Bryan Schipper and Glenn Behrends. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to First Reformed Church Radio Fund. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements.
