    Vervolgens vertrok het gezin op 19 augustus 1919 naar Amsterdam, vanwaar zij op de 21e per schip ‘SS Johan de Witt’ naar Batavia vertrokken. De passage eerste klasse werd betaald door het Gouvernement van Nederlandsch Indië. Aangekomen in Batavia, kreeg Gerard een tijdelijke aanstelling als burger ambtenaar bij de HBS te Bandoeng op West-Java, aldus het Nieuws van de Dag voor Nederlands Indië van 26 september 1919. De HBS stond in de Billitonstraat, in het centrum van de stad. De leraren woonden in de Europese wijk. Hier zag hun zoon, drie jaar later het levenslicht.

    Het gezin kwam ws. in 1926 terug naar Holland en woonde daarna tot 13 oktober 1927 in Oisterwijk, vervolgens te Haarlem, Hogendorpstraat 14 in het Bos en Vaartkwartier. Zij verhuisden samen op 16 augustus 1948 naar Emmen, Dennenlaan 7 [omgenummerd op 1 mei 1957 tot No.17]. Vandaar betrokken zij een serviceflat in Zeist op 30 juli 1959, aan de Arnhemse Bovenweg 12, flat 91, gelegen op de vierde etage met uitzicht op het natuurgebied ‘t Molenbosch.
